Welcome to Shadow Hills!

Shadow Hills is an excellent school!  The teachers and staff are focused on providing the best possible program for your child so that they have the best opportunity to learn and grow.  Our academic focus will continue to be upon the Idaho Core Standards (http://sde.idaho.gov/site/ICS/).  In addition to our focus on academics we will focus on what it means to be a good citizen of our community.  Citizenship learning opportunities will be integrated into the daily experience at Shadow Hills.  In order for students to grow as a learner and as a good citizen, we need your support in both areas.

You can support your child at home by modeling and living out a variety of positive behaviors beginning with the Boise School District values: respect, responsibility, honesty, teamwork, and dignity.  To support your child academically it is important to read to your child, have your child read to you, and to expect your child to read independently at home.  To encourage math skills, invite your child to help with cooking or baking in the kitchen.  Ask them to measure ingredients for cookies or a cake.  You can ask them to help you measure something with a tape measure or ruler – a home project of some sort.  Give your child an opportunity to write.  Keeping a hand written or online journal is a good place to start.  Providing real world experiences for your child that connects to their learning gives them a solid and vivid foundation for learning in other areas.

You can be involved with our school in many ways.  One of the most important groups at our school is the Parent Teacher Organization (PTO).  They PTO Board will be seeking your involvement this year.  There are many opportunities available.  Your presence here at the school in a volunteer capacity is always appreciated.  If you’re not able to be present at the school, your child’s teacher may have some tasks that you can complete at home, in the evening or on weekends.

Finally, if you are ever in need of information or guidance, please call the school or drop in for a visit.  We will be glad to assist you!

I look forward to meeting and working with you!

Dr. Z. (Gale Zickefoose), Principal
